The Cobra’s story is one of an improbable idea turned reality. In 1962, Carroll Shelby — an American racing driver sidelined by heart problems — convinced British manufacturer AC Cars to supply chassis for him to fit with a Ford V8 engine. The result exceeded all expectations: a car weighing under 1,000 kg producing up to 485 horsepower in its 427 specification.

What is the difference between an AC Cobra and a Shelby Cobra?
They are the same car. In Europe, it was sold as the AC Cobra (after British manufacturer AC Cars). In America, Carroll Shelby put his name on it — hence Shelby Cobra. Competition versions were also badged as Ford Shelby Cobra.
How many original AC Cobras were produced?
Between 1962 and 1967, approximately 1,000 production Cobras were built, including 348 in 427 specification — the most sought-after variant. Original Cobras are extremely rare today and regularly fetch over one million euros at auction.
